Migrate Content Between Storage Providers in VIDIZMO

Introduction

VIDIZMO facilitates the configuration of your storage provider during the initial setup using the Setup Wizard. After configuring the storage provider via the Setup Wizard, you can view and edit the provider details by navigating to the Control Panel and selecting Storage Providers.

The Setup Wizard enables the initial configuration of your Portal's Storage Provider and Transcoder, ensuring a seamless user experience throughout the application. It guides you through a series of straightforward steps to set up the system.

Content migration can be performed during the initial setup in VIDIZMO using the Setup Wizard. Additionally, if you need to configure a new storage provider and migrate content from one storage provider to another, you can do this through the Setup Wizard. To migrate content, navigate to the Transcoder tab in the Setup Wizard, select the Migrate Content option, and the system will handle the content migration between storage providers.

Another method of migrating content is to use the migration button to transfer content directly between storage providers. Let's explore this functionality and learn how to utilize it to migrate content from one storage provider to another. 

Concept

In scenarios where a user wants to migrate content from one storage provider to another, the primary approach is to run the Setup Wizard, which will migrate the content between storage providers. However, when dealing with large amounts of data, it is possible that some content may not migrate successfully. 

In such cases, the user has two options:

• Rerun the Setup Wizard and repeat the migration process.
• Utilize the migration button available in the source storage provider.

To use the migration button:

• Navigate to the source storage provider in the Control Panel.
• The migration button will be present if more than one storage provider is configured in the portal.
• By clicking this button, the system will migrate only the content that was not successfully migrated during the initial process, ensuring no content is left behind.

This functionality ensures efficient and complete content migration without duplicating already migrated data.

Only users with a Manager+ role can perform content migration. Additionally, only the original content is migrated; any file copies or renditions will not be transferred from one storage provider to another. When migrating content, only the content type selected in the storage provider will be migrated from the source storage provider to the destination storage provider.

You can check the workflow status to verify successful content migration. Specific events trigger VIDIZMO’s workflows, which consist of a series of activities executed in a predefined sequence. For more information, refer to our article "Understanding Workflows."

If the migration process is not completed successfully or if some content is not migrated, the workflow state will show Finished with Error. This indicates that not all content has been migrated. In this case, the user can utilize the migration button in the source storage provider. This will rerun the process and migrate only the content that was left behind.
