There may be cases when an Administrator wants to replace an existing media file or overwrite the content of an existing media file in VIDIZMO while maintaining the original URL. This is helpful if the media link has already been distributed or has garnered considerable number of views and other statistics that you'd like to retain.

There are 2 ways to achieve this goal, both requiring you to re-upload your new media file:

  • Via Add New Media: Administrators can re-upload the new media file with the same filename as they originally uploaded and confirming to overwrite when prompted. Note that choosing not to overwrite will create a new media record and will publish the new media file as a new media with a new URL even if it's the same filename as an earlier media.

  • Re-upload Function: Administrators can use the Re-Upload function available under Media Management to replace an existing media file without having to worry about the original filename or overwrite prompt.

Note: The process described in this article applies to all media types, and all media settings and statistics of the original media are retained with both methods.

Steps To Replace A Media File via Add New Media

1. At the Account/Channel Homepage, click on Add New Media (+) icon.

2. At the Add New Media page, click on Upload Media box.

3. At the Upload Media page, click on Capture/Browse & Upload and select your new media file that you wish to upload.

4. Select the desired media you wish to upload. Make sure the new media filename exactly matches the original media filename that you uploaded earlier including the file extension.

5. As soon as the media begins to upload, a pop-up window will appear stating that the content you are uploading already exists. Click Yes to replace the existing media file.

6. On clicking Yes, the system will upload the new media file and update the existing media record. In the meantime, you can review media settings, make changes if necessary and click Save to finish the process.

7. Once the new media file has finished uploading and the transcoding process is 100% completed, you will notice that the re-uploaded media is shown as the most recently uploaded media in Media Management . Click on the video thumbnail to playback the media and ensure that your media file has actually been replaced and the original URL is retained.
